From one iconic performer to another in Le Gateau's latest

show

Opera and lycra loving cabaret sensation Le Gateau Chocolat storms back to Australia with the world premiere of his new work, Icons. Walking the tightrope between his public and private personas, Le Gateau Chocolat explores relationships with our icons - the people, the moments, the books, the relationships that have come to shape us, or the ideal we aspire to. How do those in the spotlight become icons? How do you become representative of something bigger than yourself? Le Gateau explores his experiences as a cabaret artists and drag performer and balancing that with his own personal identity at the end of the day. This is one artist that everyone needs to worship at the feet of. Here Le Gateau Chocolat answers our Fringe Funny Five questions in beautiful style: Describe your show in three words. "80s. Nostalgia. Icons.''  What made you laugh this week and why was it so funny? "A most hilarious review of the show. It was deeply vitriolic but lacking in any journalistic merit or tact in its handling of what’s supposed to be constructive critique as opposed to a barrage of insults. It gave me a good belly laugh.'' My guilty pleasure is… "Tim Tams. I can only get them in Australia… they are the sweet equivalent of Pringles; once you pop, you can’t stop. Pure Evil!'' What's the funniest thing an audience member or fan has ever said to you? "Asking about my size and poking my body… “The padding is really effective” And the awkward realisation that it wasn’t padding but all me. Ha!'' Which cartoon character do you best relate to and why? "Phoenix of X-men. I’ve always been obsessed with her and what she represents; rebirth from the ashes. Trials and tribulations may and will come and some may burn you but the destination is the ascension. Finding the strength to be transformed by the trials to be born anew; a more evolved model.'' LE GATEAU CHOCOLAT: ICONS, Adelaide Fringe, Garden of Unearthly Delights, Rundle Park, The Deluxe, 8.30pm until March 15. Bookings: www.adelaidefringe.com.au or www.gardenofunearthlydelights.com.au
